Her Story

About Amy

Amy Demenge is a U.S. Air Force veteran and a dedicated advocate for transitioning service members, veterans, and military families. For the past 15+ years, she has focused her career on supporting service members as they transition from military to civilian life, with a particular emphasis on empowering women veterans.

In 2023, Amy pioneered Colorado's Women Veterans State Program, where she worked tirelessly as an Accredited Veteran Service Officer to advocate for women veterans across Colorado and at the national level. Her commitment to service extends beyond her professional role. That same year, she served as a Guardian on the first all-Women Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Colorado, accompanying a 100 year old World War II Navy WAVE veteran on a journey honoring her service.

She currently serves as a Military Spouse Employer Partner Recruiter with Zeiders Enterprises, Inc., where she partners with businesses interested in hiring military spouses. In this role, she works to connect employers with a skilled and adaptable military spouse talent pipeline, identify workforce needs, develop employer relationships, and create opportunities that support military spouse employment. With more than 15 years of experience supporting transitioning service members and veterans, Amy has built a career around helping people successfully navigate their next chapter. She has served as a Colorado Ambassador for the Military Women's Memorial and has been involved with the National Association of State Women Veteran Coordinators, where she served as a Board Member. Her advocacy has included initiating Missouri House Bill 154 concerning a Woman Veterans license plate and Colorado House Bill 24-1236 recognizing Women Veterans Recognition Day on June 12. She holds a master's degree in Management and Leadership from Webster University.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for helping people, particularly transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses. Throughout my career, that passion has motivated me to support individuals as they navigate career transitions, understand their benefits, and identify opportunities for their next chapter.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Not all money is good money when seeking a career. Find a company that values you as an employee.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women is to network, volunteer, and be willing to put yourself out there by meeting people and building relationships. You never know who you will meet or where a conversation or connection may lead. Building a strong network and being willing to engage with others can open doors to opportunities that you may not have anticipated.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my role is finding companies that are interested in partnering with Spouse Works to increase military spouse employment. There is a significant opportunity to educate employers about the value of the military spouse workforce and the skills, adaptability, and experience that military spouses bring to organizations. Strengthening employer awareness and partnerships can help expand employment opportunities and reduce unemployment among military spouses.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my professional and personal life are educating others and practicing self-care. I believe in supporting people with empathy, integrity, and a genuine commitment to helping them succeed, while also recognizing the importance of taking care of myself.
