Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amy
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from incredible mentors throughout my career, especially from law enforcement and military backgrounds who have always been willing to reach out and help me grow. The veteran title opened many doors, particularly in Texas, and gave me instant rapport in male-dominated fields. Hard work, learning from tough lessons, and never getting complacent have also been key, along with the support of my family and the opportunities that have consistently been better than the last.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Find good mentors who can turn your weaknesses into strengths by challenging you. Set boundaries and timelines to avoid overloading yourself. Never get complacent - always set small goals for improvement because complacency kills motivation and opportunities. Remember that every bad leader teaches you how not to lead, which is the most important lesson. Practice empathy and emotional intelligence by checking in on your team when their behavior changes, and don't be afraid to ask questions when you don't know something.
