Her Story

About Amy

Amy Granatowski is an accomplished sales and molecular diagnostics professional with nearly two decades of experience in consultative selling, business development, and healthcare solutions. In her current role with mdxhealth, she specializes in genomic testing for prostate cancer, serving healthcare providers throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts outside the Boston area. Amy educates physicians and clinical teams on testing procedures, product utilization, and the interpretation of diagnostic reports, using a highly personalized approach that includes professional meetings and educational engagements designed to build awareness and confidence in advanced molecular testing. Amy's career reflects a remarkable progression built on determination, adaptability, and hard work. She put herself through college while working in the service industry, beginning with waitressing and other customer-facing roles. After a brief period as a loan officer, she spent eight years in advertising sales with Yellow Book before transitioning into the healthcare industry. She entered medical device sales with BARD and later BD, where she sold intermittent catheterization products and a device for female urinary incontinence. Her outstanding performance at BD earned her three consecutive BD Winner's Circle awards, placing her among the company's top representatives, along with six years of President's Club recognition and five Territory Manager of the Year awards in her 8 years at Bard/BD. A mother of two, Amy attributes much of her professional success to grit, resilience, and a strong work ethic. She also credits several mentors along the way with helping her better understand sales psychology and the importance of recognizing individual strengths. Amy believes successful sales are built on trust rather than aggressive tactics, particularly when working in sensitive areas such as prostate cancer. Committed to continuous growth, she studies her specialized field daily and leverages emerging AI tools to expand her knowledge and remain at the forefront of molecular diagnostics and genomic testing.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to grit, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous learning. I have spent nearly 20 years in sales, beginning with service jobs while putting myself through college, experiences that taught me the value of hard work, independence, and resilience. Throughout my career, I have built my success by developing genuine relationships, earning trust, and focusing on providing value rather than simply making a sale. My achievements, including being recognized as a top-performing sales representative at BD, earning the BD Winner’s Circle award three consecutive times, and being a member of President’s Club for approximately six years, reflect the dedication I have brought to every role. When I transitioned into the highly specialized field of genomic testing for prostate cancer, I recognized that I had more to learn, so I embraced the opportunity to become a student again. I studied extensively, practiced conversations, used AI tools to enhance my preparation, and continually challenged myself to become more knowledgeable and confident. I believe success comes from staying curious, adapting to change, and never being afraid to learn something new.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my former mentor at BD. He taught me that not everyone sells the same way and that success comes from understanding your individual strengths, personality, and communication style rather than trying to fit into someone else’s mold. That lesson has stayed with me throughout my career. I’ve learned that successful sales professionals need to understand themselves just as much as they understand their customers. Hard work is essential, but so are self-awareness, personal growth, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering sales, particularly medical sales, is to embrace discomfort and never give up simply because something feels difficult or unfamiliar. Some of the most challenging seasons of my career have ultimately taught me the greatest lessons. Focus on building genuine relationships before pursuing the sale, listen to your customers, understand their challenges, and look for ways to provide value and become someone they can rely on. Don’t be discouraged by what you don’t know; even after nearly two decades in sales, I continue to learn and grow with every new product, customer, territory, and industry. Stay persistent, ask questions, seek out mentors, use the resources and technology available to you, and commit to improving every day. With time, knowledge, and perseverance, the things that once seemed intimidating can become some of your greatest areas of expertise.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are independence, accountability, perseverance, and commitment. As a mother of two, balancing motherhood with a demanding career has taught me invaluable lessons about strength, organization, sacrifice, and resilience. I value the independence that sales provides and appreciate being trusted to manage my territory, build meaningful relationships, and take ownership of my results. At the same time, I understand that independence comes with accountability. I believe in working hard, taking responsibility for my commitments, and giving my best because I genuinely care about the work I do and the people I serve.
