Her Story

About Amy

Amy Green is a sports publicity specialist, publicist, and writer based in Lawton, Oklahoma, with a particular focus on professional boxing and entertainment. Since approximately 2004, she has built a career in boxing publicity and journalism, writing articles, conducting interviews, and developing creative promotional opportunities for fighters and notable personalities. Her clients include the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame and Hall of Famer Terri Moss of Atlanta. She also serves as an elector for the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York, primarily focusing on selections for the women's division. Through her freelance work, Green specializes in niche marketing, developing individualized publicity strategies that help clients expand their fan bases, increase visibility, and connect with audiences across traditional and social media platforms. She also volunteers with the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame. Before transitioning into full-time freelance publicity, Green spent nearly 28 years in newspaper advertising with The Lawton Constitution, where she worked in advertising sales, customer service, and rate development. That experience provided a strong foundation in marketing, communications, and relationship-building. Through a professional connection, she later expanded her career into corrections, initially teaching life skills to medium-security inmates, including individuals convicted of violent offenses. She currently works with the ODOC as a Programs Specialist, where she teaches substance abuse therapy to approximately 30 students daily, supporting individuals as they prepare for successful transitions following incarceration. Green attended Cameron University, where she studied Early Childhood Education and Home Economics. She attributes her professional success to persistence, adaptability, and the willingness to find alternative solutions when faced with rejection. Drawing on her years in advertising, she believes that hearing no should encourage people to reconsider their approach rather than abandon an opportunity. Outside her professional responsibilities, Green is also a creative writer and has completed a steamy boxing romance novel that she plans to pursue independently. She is exploring the possibility of adapting the story into an independent film, potentially creating casting opportunities for individuals transitioning out of incarceration.

Ten minutes with Amy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to persistence, creativity, and the ability to view rejection as an opportunity to find another solution. When someone tells me no, I don't necessarily accept it as the end of the conversation; instead, I ask myself how I can make it work. Throughout my years in advertising, I learned that even when selling something as simple as a three-line classified ad, persistence and adaptability can make all the difference. Success often comes down to finding different approaches, adjusting your strategy, and continuing to pursue the opportunity until you find a way forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't compare yourself to others.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

AI is presenting significant challenges but when utilized properly is an asset. The biggest opportunity in my field is if you are willing to be creative, persistent and original, the sky is the limit.
