Her Story

About Amy

With over 25 years in higher education at UC Santa Barbara, I have built a comprehensive career encompassing classroom instruction, course development, and curriculum design. I served as chair of the Department of Exercise and Sports Studies for 5 years, navigating the department through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. My typical day involves teaching undergraduate courses, managing online courses, grading, developing new content, and meeting with faculty members to collaborate. Most importantly, I spend the majority of my time working directly with students. I have supervised internship programs, collaborating with community entities, and have contributed to my field through published research. Beyond my university role, I am the owner of Legacy Wellness, where I offer well-rounded, wellness-based programming tailored to fit the needs of all people in different areas, whether it's nutrition, exercise, support for menopause, or people on the GLP-1 journey. I am also a member of the Center of Aging and Longevity at UC Santa Barbara, which allows me to collaborate on exciting initiatives in this important area.

Ten minutes with Amy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my desire to keep learning and growing. I'm just never done, as you can tell. I'm always trying new things and learning new things, and I like to bring all of that to what I do professionally. That continuous pursuit of knowledge and growth is what drives me forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to find your passion. Because that'll kind of lead you to both happiness and fulfillment, and then being able to do a good job. Find your passion and your purpose, I would say. That's what has guided me throughout my career.
