Her Story

About Amy

I started in healthcare 15 years ago with roles in medical sales at a vein clinic and physician referral development for an ENT group. I then worked as a clinical marketing specialist at Phelps before transitioning to my current position leading community health and wellness initiatives. My psychology degree with a sociology minor has been invaluable in understanding people's needs and building programs for education, screenings, and access to care.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amy

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

When interviewing, two women VPs advised me to lead as if without bringing gender into it, to come with the same qualifications and skill set and have confidence in why I was hired. They said don't even think about it, just lead as you are.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Staffing resources are a big challenge as departments are stretched thin. Government oversight, regulation, access to care, and people not being insured or afraid to access healthcare also play major roles.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Work-life balance is absolutely key, especially with three young kids. Helping people live their healthiest lives, advocating for health, and being a resource for those in need aligns my personal passions with my professional role. The Japanese concept of ikigai resonates as my skills, passions, and livelihood all come together.
