Amy Mitchell

A highly experienced trial attorney and litigation leader with more than 37 years of legal practice, he is currently a Partner at Spencer Fane LLP in Houston, where he handles complex insurance defense, oil and gas disputes, trucking litigation, construction defect claims, commercial litigation, and high-exposure large loss cases. His practice spans all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, mediation, trial preparation, appeals, and settlement negotiations.

Throughout his career, he has handled more than 2,000 litigated matters, tried over 80 cases, participated in more than 500 mediations, and managed numerous arbitrations involving complex, multi-party disputes. His broad legal perspective is strengthened by prior experience working directly for major insurance carriers including AIG, Farmers Insurance, Liberty Mutual, USAA, and Nationwide. He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is recognized for his leadership, mentorship, and deep litigation expertise.

In addition to private practice, he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy at the University of Houston Law Center, mentoring future attorneys and teaching litigation skills. His leadership experience also extends into public service, having served eight years on the Sugar Land City Council, where he contributed to major infrastructure, public safety, and community development initiatives.
