Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have this feeling deep down that I've always had my whole life, that I was born to not just be good, but be great. And that is something that I keep at the helm of my existence, always, and that's in everything. Be great as a daughter, be great as a partner, be great as a friend, and be great as an employee. And so, I never settle.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is, if you are not being challenged and it doesn't feel difficult, doesn't feel like a challenge, then you are not in the right place. I always try to be in spaces where I feel like I am not the smartest in the room, and I have something to learn from every single person.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

If you feel like it is the best move for you in terms of your life setup, but you also feel some sort of connection to what you're doing, there's some sort of passion or motivation behind it, that is going to be the right call. Having passion to back up your ambition is something that I think has been really, really valuable in my life and my career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In the fashion industry there is a lot of competition. So many people are starting clothing brands... getting into a business like this, it's important to remember that I'm not only choosing things that I like, or designs that I think are going to be successful, but I'm really listening to my audience. In the corporate sector, the shifting priorities is the toughest thing. Mentorship is a long-term investment... there just isn't enough longevity in the focus areas of corporations.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I stick to who I am, and remembering that you are a compilation of the five people that you spend the most time with. I really try to surround myself with fantastic people that really inspire me, both at home and at work. I stick to my morals and values that are rooted in my Christian faith, and I think that is really what carries me to success in a lot of ways, because I know who I am, and I'm true to who I am throughout the work that I do.
