Her Story
About Amy
I've been in education for about 23 years, and my journey began when I became the first in my family to attend and graduate from college. That powerful experience changed my life and opened my eyes to inequity - I saw racial and ethnic gaps in representation that didn't reflect the world I knew. This led me to pursue a career aligned with social justice. I entered a teaching fellowship where I fell in love with teaching and did that for a few years before being invited to become a school leader. Eventually, I worked on leadership at the district level and have been consulting with different schools around the country and in New York City, where I'm based. One of my proudest accomplishments was co-founding a middle school in Brooklyn, New York in 2011, where we built a school that did really right by kids, helping students make excellent progress and achieve academic goals while being engaged in learning and feeling a level of safety and inclusion I was really proud of. I recently completed my education doctorate at Northeastern University in December 2025, and while focused on that, I started my consulting practice called Education Re-Inspired. I work with a variety of clients and school leaders, primarily through services like coaching their teachers or helping them analyze the strengths and opportunities within their school models. The through line from day one of teaching to now has been wanting to contribute to more effective schools and places that can really change students' lives and give them the opportunities that they dream of.

Ten minutes with Amy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I had certain ideals as a young person, as a college graduate, just wanting to work for social change. Building a career around social justice and being more than two decades into really working in service of students and schools is something that has been driving me and will continue to do so. It's about staying connected to that purpose and remembering why the work matters, especially when things get tough or you get caught up in the monotony of it all.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I think I would say to deeply know your purpose and why you want to do the work that you do, because it can get really tough and you can get caught up in just the monotony of it sometimes. It's important to step back and know why am I doing this work, why does it matter, and to remember it's bigger than just what you're doing today.
