Her Story
About Amy
Amy Schafer has dedicated 26 years to the medical imaging field. She initially pursued nursing prerequisites but switched to radiology after working as a transporter in a hospital, where she observed the roles of x-ray techs and nurses. After completing a three-year radiology program, she spent approximately eight years in diagnostic imaging, during which she obtained her bone density certification for osteoporosis scans. She then transitioned to interventional radiology, where she performed procedures involving arteries, veins, and drains for 18 years, including work on diabetic patients, kidney stones, internal bleeding cases, cancer treatments, and kyphoplasties. Amy also spent one year traveling and working at various hospitals and one year in an outpatient IR lab focused on peripheral artery disease. She now works at an outpatient clinic conducting diagnostic imaging and bone density scans, a role she chose to reduce on-call demands, and she takes pride in mentoring x-ray students daily. Amy earned her associate's degree in 2003 and remains passionate about educating others on the benefits of interventional radiology procedures.
