Her Interview
Ten minutes with Amy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong work ethic I developed while growing up on my family's dairy farm. That experience taught me perseverance, discipline, accountability, and the importance of working hard to achieve meaningful goals. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to continuous learning, maintaining a positive mindset, believing in myself, and embracing difficult challenges as opportunities for growth.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received came from a mentor early in my career in the food processing industry, who helped shape my leadership style and professional development. In addition, I had the opportunity to be included in a talent development program during my years in the chemical weapons complex and was mentored by a powerful female Manager, now company Senior VP. Their guidance taught me the importance of leading by example, continuing to learn, and investing in strong professional relationships. I have also benefited greatly from the network of accomplished women who have encouraged and supported me throughout my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to believe in yourself, work hard, and never allow fear or stereotypes to define your potential. Prepare thoroughly, continue learning, and approach every opportunity with confidence. Experience builds confidence over time, and women are fully capable of succeeding in highly technical and traditionally male-dominated industries. Stay positive, persevere through challenges, and never underestimate your abilities.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges facing the nuclear industry is replacing an aging workforce as experienced professionals retire. At the same time, this creates tremendous opportunities for the next generation of skilled professionals as nuclear energy continues to grow as a reliable, clean energy source. Investing in workforce development, mentoring, and knowledge transfer will be essential to maintaining safe and successful operations while supporting the industry's continued expansion.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and service are the values that guide both my professional and personal life. I believe in protecting people and the environment while maintaining the highest standards of excellence in everything I do. I am committed to serving others, fostering a strong safety culture, and continually striving to improve both myself and the organizations I support.
