Her Story

About Amya

Amya Wright owns The Don Agency, a branding and marketing agency she launched in 2021, along with The Dawn Models, her modeling agency. She serves as a model career coach and is a notary public in North Carolina, which allows her to assist with contracts for her clients. After graduating high school in 2018, Wright chose not to pursue college and instead taught herself through YouTube University, seminars, and classes, building on earlier entrepreneurial ventures such as a cosmetics brand and a boutique. Her main expertise lies in model career coaching within the modeling and fashion industry, where she manages a community of models, certifies their training, handles bookings, and organizes events including an annual fashion show. Wright has received awards for branding and marketing in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2022, in addition to honors from high school where she participated in DECA and FCCLA. She works with two non-profit production companies and attributes her success to community, family, friends, and her team. Wright values faith above all, along with growth as a leader, mother, and entrepreneur, discipline, self-love and self-respect, and education by sharing knowledge without gatekeeping. She advises young women entering the industry to have patience, start anyway, and trust that God has provided the necessary tools and resources.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amya

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to community. I couldn't have done this without community, family, friends, and my team. Everybody needs help along the way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't think too emotional into things when it comes to business. Keep a strong foundation. Being broke is hard, being rich is hard, choose your hard. My son is a huge reminder to keep going.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Have patience with yourself. Everything is not going to be perfect. Start anyways. God already gave you the tools and resources. Be grateful for what you have around you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenge is pleasing everybody no matter how hard you try, especially with many personalities in the community. Opportunities include expanding globally, starting a model and fashion podcast, annual fashion show, and developing a model and talent app.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Faith is number one. You can't do anything without God. Growth by committing to being a better leader, mother and entrepreneur. Discipline to stay committed even when motivation fades. Self-love and self-respect by respecting my peace, time, energy and standards. Education by teaching others without gatekeeping.
