Her Story

About Ana

My entire higher education and career has been in the field of architecture. I started Holistic Homes Architecture at the end of 2022. My expertise is as a holistic architect focusing on toxin-free healthy homes. This specialty is quite uncommon and unknown in the field of architecture. The way I arrived at it was after I got sick myself in 2012, and already as an architect, I started to dive deeper into what was possibly contributing to my illness in my home. The home is the building where we have the most control of what materials we pick, lights, air, water, and so on. Since 2012, I have been exploring anything and everything I could discover on the topic. I focus on how all of these aspects impact our health, including hormonal imbalances, allergies, children who have behavioral issues, how we feel, how we sleep, circadian rhythm, views, nature, and how we bring the indoor-outdoor connection. As the architect in charge, I do client-facing work and I lead the design and all the processes. My heart is really in single-family residences and working directly with and guiding the homeowner. The biggest reward is seeing the excitement in my clients' faces of the possibilities their home offers and the improvements to their lifestyle. I love seeing families truly thrive in their homes.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I don't prescribe how someone should live or subscribe to a certain style of architecture. I try and understand how my clients want to live, discover what they enjoy, and how they want to occupy their home. After this deep level of understanding, I offer solutions that fit their specific needs, wishes and desires.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be a good listener and help people achieve what they desire by guiding them patiently because the road of architecture and design is a long one.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep an open mind. It's a windy road, and you don't know where it is going lead you. When I started school, I had no idea where my path will lead, certainly not to my specialty in healthy homes. Anything we ever learn, one way or another, at one point or another, it will be useful, so... no regrets.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The field of architecture is vast. It presents the opportunities for aspiring architects to make the path their own, as I did. You can let the right path unfold for you. I didn't set of to specialize in toxin-free healthy homes but life led me here.

The challenge in my specialty is the general lack of knowledge about the effects of the home on the occupants' health and well-being. The pandemic slightly improved the awareness but it still takes a lot of education. I am happy to share my expertise by presenting, educating and writing articles on various topics related to healthy homes.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think open communication is critical, as well as honesty, building trust and connections.
