About Anamarie

I'm a student at St. Joseph's University where I study finance and risk management. Coming from a family of finance professionals - my mom is a financial planner and my sister is a financial analyst - I've always watched what they've done and worked closely with them. I've done shadowing with my sister at Hartford Funds for the past 3 summers, which has given me valuable real-world experience. In school, I discovered I really loved all my Intro to Finance and Intro to Accounting classes. I've always been a math girl, so this field is a natural fit for me. What drives me most is pushing for women in a mainly male-dominated field - it feels so empowering being able to do something like that and also be able to make a difference to people. I'm very into investing and participate in the investing club at my school. I also have a mentorship with a group of high schoolers where I teach them about investing, how to get into it, and the basics. One of my most notable achievements happened back in February when me and some of my peers competed in the National Johnson & Johnson case competition. I was the only girl in the group and also the only freshman, so it was very rewarding to win that. I'm doing a co-op with Johnson & Johnson in the fall, and winning the competition definitely helped me gain my confidence within the company. Beyond academics, I'm a member of my university's competitive cheerleading team and participate in the Women in Business Club at my school, where we do a lot of volunteering for nonprofit organizations to uplift other women.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is definitely that if you love what you do, you'll never work a single day in your life. I absolutely love the field I'm getting into - I think it's so interesting. It's definitely a little scary stepping into a field that's mostly dominated by men, but it's a challenge that I like to give myself. I absolutely love what I'm going into, so I feel like no day of work's ever gonna feel like work if I enjoy it.
