About Andrea
Andrea Barr is the Social Media Manager for the Columbus River Dragons hockey team in Columbus, Georgia. She oversees the team's comprehensive social media and marketing efforts, encompassing email and text campaigns, graphic design, video filming and editing, and the creation of engaging Jumbotron content for live events. Andrea earned a degree in sports communications after initially aspiring to become a sports broadcaster. Her professional journey includes positions with minor league baseball teams before transitioning to minor league hockey, where she found fulfillment in the creative and community-focused aspects of her role. She attributes her achievements to a strong support system of family and friends who encouraged her persistence through challenges, as well as her dedication to crafting memorable experiences for sports fans. Andrea advises young women entering the industry to never give up, maintain their passion, and refuse to accept no as a final answer.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I definitely don't think I'd be able to do it without my support system. I've been knocked down but I just didn't stop going, and I had my mom, my dad, and my grandma who really encouraged me. I would just want to make them proud. Everyone that enjoys sports, because you can create something and the experience and the moments. I don't think if I didn't have my family or my friends to be there for me I could do anything alone. We're supposed to have a community, have people behind us.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never give up. There's gonna be a lot of people that are gonna say things to put you down or be jealous of you, and as long as you hold on to that passion and why you want to do it. Don't lose that hope, and don't give that up, and just keep powering through, and don't take no for an answer.
