Her Interview

Ten minutes with Andrea

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from word of mouth and my community. People speak to other people asking who they would go to. Google has been very good to me as has ChatGPT. Most of my success has been truly friend telling another friend.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice came from Sue Bryce: remember that we're not just photographers, we're also businessmen. If you don't know it, learn it. If you hate it, send it to somebody else. Learn the business side. Also stay curious.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Find a passion project in addition to bread and butter work. Find something that ignites your soul. Don't get lost in making money or comparing yourself on social media. Stay curious and remember why you do what you do.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is that everybody has a cell phone camera so everybody sees themselves as a photographer. The difference between good and bad photography needs to be educated on lighting, positioning, posing, and that all photos are not created equal.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family is important. I chose to be primarily a Monday through Friday shooter to spend time with my family. Being authentic and connection are at the top of my value list. Stay curious.
