Her Story
About Andrea
I began my career in commercial insurance in 2014 and joined Hub International in 2016, where I currently serve as an account executive in the Professional Liability Department. My expertise centers on professional liability for law firms, management liability for law firms and other professionals including architects, engineers, and accountants, as well as cyber insurance and commercial general liability. My clients rely on me most for consultations around their professional and management liability policies, particularly when navigating complex situations like mergers and acquisitions, retirement planning, and claims issues or concerns about potential claims. Before transitioning to insurance, I worked in image editing for a photography studio, and while I no longer work professionally in photography, I continue to pursue it as a hobby. One of my greatest professional achievements has been mentoring several colleagues from the very beginning of their careers through to their current roles as account managers, watching their career trajectories develop and grow.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say I attribute my success to building relationships and the strength of my relationships within the industry. I lead with transparency, honesty, and reliability. Once you build up your reputation that you're reliable and honest and trustworthy, that really goes a long way in achieving whatever career growth goals I've been interested in. Those relationships and that reputation have been fundamental to opening doors and creating opportunities throughout my career.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
First, try to find something that's actually interesting to you, that you think you can spend day after day talking about and learning about, because that's what you're going to be spending the majority of your time doing. If you don't enjoy what you're learning about and talking about on a daily basis, then this industry's not for you. There's probably something for everybody within insurance since we work with every kind of industry that exists within the U.S. If you're interested in health and life sciences or biomedical stuff, there's a whole field for that. If you're interested in the legal sector, there's a whole industry for that. If you're interested in cyber, cybercriminals and ransomware, AI and data centers, there's a whole industry for that. If you want to support non-profits, there's a whole section for that. So just find an industry that you really enjoy being a part of and a line of coverage that you really enjoy talking about, and try to specialize in that. I'd probably also say, if you can, try to find a mentor within the industry. Network and be positive with everybody that you meet, because you never know who, down the line, is going to be able to give you a tip off on a good opportunity for your next career move or for a new client to bring on.
