About Andrea

Andrea Ellis serves as a strategy executive at a health and wellness company focused on brain technology, representing Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in her role that began in January 2026. Her career path includes 24 years in university administration within higher education, followed by four years in strategy at the third largest health system in the country, before transitioning to her current entrepreneurial position building operations, human resources, finance, and vendor relations for a company with 25 employees that acquired worldwide technology rights from a firm established 15 years prior. Ellis holds a master's degree in counseling and a PhD with a focus on emotional intelligence and conflict management, which she credits for her ability to read people and navigate complex interactions. She maintains accreditation as a member of the national counselors organization and has been recognized with a Movers and Shakers award and an innovation award. Ellis attributes her success to grit, resilience in the face of setbacks, and maintaining balance so that her heart follows her feet whether at work or home. She advises young women entering the field not to set limits on themselves, to broaden their networks, and to avoid imposing their own glass ceilings.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Andrea

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's a lot of grit that you just don't quit. Resilience that you just keep going, and you take the failures or the setbacks in stride. Balance is really important so I can show up great wherever I am. My heart should follow my feet - if I'm at work, that's where my heart is; if I'm home, that's where my heart is.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to not set limits on yourself, especially as a woman. Broaden your network to see other people who have been successful that will pour into you and help pull you along the way. Networking is critical. But just don't put the glass ceiling on yourself. I think a lot of times we do that on our own.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The main areas of focus for us are stress, anxiety, and sleep. That impacts just about everyone. If we don't have a handle on stress, anxiety, and sleep, it impacts the rest of our bodies - our guts, our skin, our heart. We have a product that can really change the lives of millions in a very non-invasive way.
