Her Interview

Ten minutes with Andrea Fay

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my passion for teaching, my love of mathematics, and the industry experience that prepared me to bring practical knowledge into the classroom. Teaching has always been a goal of mine, and I discovered early on that I truly enjoy helping students understand concepts and experience that “light bulb” moment. Combining my academic interests, professional experience, and natural gift for instruction has made this career incredibly fulfilling and truly my dream job.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to make sure I invested as much time as possible in my daughter. Early in my career, a colleague shared that although work is important, he regretted missing important moments with his children because he worked too much. His advice stayed with me and influenced my decision to move from industry into academia, where I could have greater flexibility while continuing to pursue a fulfilling career.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to always be prepared and remain open to opportunities, even when they push you outside your comfort zone. Keep pursuing new opportunities, build meaningful professional relationships, and make networking a priority. Volunteering and taking on new experiences can also open unexpected doors, so never underestimate where one opportunity or connection might lead.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value lifelong learning, curiosity, and making the most of every experience. I love traveling, discovering new things, and challenging myself to learn something new each day. I also enjoy setting personal goals that encourage me to try new, meaningful, fun, and educational experiences. This mindset keeps me engaged, open-minded, and excited about what each new year brings.
