Her Story

About Andrea

Andrea Feldman serves as a senior leader in the neuroscience medical affairs division at Johnson and Johnson, a role she has held as part of her 26-year tenure with the company and over 30 years in her field. She is a pharmacist and psychiatric pharmacist by training, holding board certification in psychiatric pharmacy clinical practice for many years, and previously worked as a clinical pharmacist in psychiatry before transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry. Her educational background includes an undergraduate degree in pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1992, a doctorate from NOVA Southeastern University in 1994, and a psychiatric pharmacy specialist residency at the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1995. Feldman is a member of several local and national pharmacy associations. She attributes her success to leaning into understanding people better and helping them, gaining satisfaction from watching people grow and develop. In her work, she values the people she works with and the patients she helps, while in her personal life her family and watching them achieve their goals are most important. Feldman advises young women entering the industry to be patient, take all opportunities presented, look for opportunities for themselves, recognize others, and continue to be their authentic self. She notes that the ever-changing healthcare environment presents challenges but the opportunities far outweigh them, including being part of bringing innovative solutions to patients and families, with no single straight path in the industry affording diverse experiences.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Andrea

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think I attribute my success to leaning in to wanting to understand people better, and wanting to help people. And gaining a lot of satisfaction from watching people grow and develop.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've ever received is probably from a former boss who really encouraged me to be my authentic self and to continue to propel my innate strengths.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say for any young women entering into my industry, is to be patient. Take all opportunities that are presented to you. Look for opportunities for yourself, and recognize others. And continue to be your authentic self.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is competitive positions and the ever-changing healthcare environment that dictates ever-changing business needs, which can be stressful and difficult because some of those decisions can be difficult. But the opportunities far outweigh, which include really being a part of something bigger that helps bring innovative solutions to patients and their families. There is no one straight path of your career, so this industry has afforded me and many of my peers a lot of opportunities to do all sorts of things that you probably didn't know you could do or would do.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my work, the people I work with and the patients that we ultimately help are most important to me. In my personal life, my family and my ability to watch them grow and help them achieve what they want to achieve.
