Her Interview
Ten minutes with Andrea
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would contribute my success to my mother. She was ever encouraging me. She came by my side even when I was going in the right direction or not. She took me to CNA classes on Saturdays, coming all the way across town to take me every Saturday because I was determined.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Take that chance. I was at the hospital for so long, I wasn't seeing growth. I was nervous to apply for other places. Then I actually branched out and took that step and left to go to an optometry office. Unfortunately they closed 3 months after hiring me, but when I took the chance it led me to this role I'm in now, and I love this role more than both of those roles.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Follow your dreams. Take bold steps even if it doesn't go the way you want it at first. Don't get discouraged. I didn't want to be a CNA anymore, I took the test the first time and did not pass. I almost got discouraged but stuck with it and I'm still in healthcare. Healthcare is changing so do not get discouraged.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and trust, compassion, determination.
