Her Story

About Andrea

Andrea Hernandez serves as Store Manager at Dollar General in Berkeley, Illinois, a role she has held for three years. Her retail management career began at Casey's, where she worked for five years starting as a sales clerk before moving to the deli department and becoming its manager. She pursued advancement by applying for assistant manager positions at other stores and later connected with a district manager who offered her a store manager opportunity after relocating. At Dollar General her store achieved number one sales in the district last year and consistently ranks number two for sales. Hernandez earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Western after completing an internship and a brief related job that she found was not the right fit. She is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting at Franklin University, motivated by her work with inventory, KPIs, and P&Ls. She attributes her success to the supportive community of colleagues, strong teamwork within the company, and an open-door policy that enables her to seek guidance from district managers and the VP. Hernandez also volunteers with the Little Village Council, organizing meetings, contributing to neighborhood beautification efforts, and participating in advocacy on community issues.
