Her Interview

Ten minutes with Andrea

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm a team player, a great listener, and a lifelong learner. I love to share what I know and help others.

I have good communication skills, especially with the written word, a large professional vocabulary, and a rapid reading rate.

I thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.

My analytical problem-solving skills enable me to find solutions quickly.

I love sensible systems and processes, and refining them or building better ones.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Know when to quit a job and move on to something better. There is so much more out there.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

There are ways to share your voice and be bold without others seeing you as a bitch. Study female role models, think about how to be firm while politely businesslike, and learn all about your role in a company, even during your spare time. This can gain you respect even though younger women are often disregarded as naive.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

AI.

It can write copy, illustrate, and offer altered photos in much less time than we copywriters and designers.

But we still have value: there are job opportunities which include modifying those AI-generated images and fact-checking copy.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I've written two essays on values.

What We Value, Part II: Design Projects | by Andrea Holtz | Medium

The work values and approaches I adhere to include: understanding the potential viewer, a thorough knowledge of a company's brand standards, UX/UI principles, examining the entire document for consistency and potential improvement, and careful consideration when selecting appropriate visual elements.

In work and personal life, I focus on listening well, being compassionate, paying attention to what's going on around me, becoming a good problem-solver, and remaining patient in tough situations.
