Her Interview
Ten minutes with Andrea
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, resilience, relationships, and being willing to take risks. I actually got my start in construction working as a project manager for my dad’s construction company, which gave me a strong foundation in the industry. From there, I’ve worked to build my own path and have taken opportunities even when they required me to step far outside of my comfort zone.
I’ve actually moved twice because of career opportunities, leaving behind family, friends, and the support systems I had built. Each time, I had to start over and create my own village. Those experiences taught me that growth often requires sacrifice, but they also taught me how capable I am of adapting and building something new.
My husband has also been a huge part of my success. He has always supported my career, encouraged me to pursue opportunities, and is an incredible father and partner. As a working mom, having that support has made a tremendous difference.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t be afraid to take up space, and don’t wait until you feel completely ready. You don’t have to have every answer before you step into an opportunity. Trust yourself, say yes, and figure it out along the way.
I’ve also learned that career success doesn’t have to mean constantly saying yes to the next promotion, award, or opportunity. Sometimes success means having the courage to step back and decide what you want your life to look like. Especially as a working mom, I’ve learned that you can be ambitious and still decide that balance, family, and purpose are important parts of your definition of success.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women not to let being a woman make them question whether they belong in the industry. Learn your business, ask questions, advocate for yourself, and never make yourself smaller to make others more comfortable. Confidence, knowledge, and authenticity will help you build credibility and long-term success. Build relationships, find mentors, and surround yourself with people who recognize your potential.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in construction right now is navigating economic uncertainty. When there are concerns about the economy, interest rates, consumer confidence, and the overall cost of doing business, it can make builders and customers more cautious about starting projects or making large investments. At the same time, I think uncertainty creates an opportunity for companies and professionals who can be flexible, provide real value, and help their customers find solutions rather than simply selling a product.
I also think there is a tremendous opportunity for women in construction. Our industry continues to evolve, and there is so much room for women to make their mark in leadership, sales, design, operations, and decision-making. The ability to build relationships, communicate well, problem-solve, and adapt is incredibly valuable in an industry that is constantly changing
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value confidence, family, authenticity, hard work, self-advocacy, continuous learning, and building strong relationships. As a woman working in traditionally male-dominated environments, I believe it is important to show up confidently, know my value, and never make myself smaller simply to make others more comfortable. I am committed to continually learning, advocating for myself, and building relationships founded on mutual respect and trust. Above all, my family is my greatest priority. I am passionate about demonstrating that women can pursue ambitious careers while also being dedicated mothers and partners, and that balance motivates me both personally and professionally.
