Her Interview
Ten minutes with Andrea
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a clear sense of purpose and a commitment to creating opportunities with a lasting impact. Founding STEAM Minds Academy has given me the privilege of building a learning community where students are empowered to discover their strengths, think critically, solve real-world problems, and prepare for successful futures.
Seeing students develop confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world is what motivates me every day. I believe true success is measured not by personal achievements, but by the lives we help transform. That belief drives me to continually innovate, remove barriers to opportunity, and create environments where every learner has the support and resources to reach their full potential.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received came from my mentor, Mark Marion, who encouraged me to believe in my abilities and taught me the importance of developing technical skills. He reminded me that technical knowledge can be learned. Still, qualities such as personality, character, genuine service, and the ability to make people feel valued are unique strengths that cannot be taught in the same way. His guidance helped me understand the importance of combining expertise with authenticity, empathy, and strong relationships.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never underestimate the value of your perspective or your ability to create meaningful change. Whether you pursue education, healthcare, business, or another field, lead with purpose, stay curious, and never stop learning. Don't wait until you feel completely ready to take on new opportunities; growth often happens outside your comfort zone.
Build genuine relationships, seek mentors who will challenge and support you, and be willing to ask questions. Most importantly, remember that leadership isn't defined by a title; it's defined by the positive impact you have on others. Stay true to your values, lead with integrity and compassion, and don't be afraid to create your own path. Some of the greatest opportunities come from seeing possibilities where others see obstacles.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and greatest opportunities in both education and healthcare is preparing people for a rapidly changing world. Advances in technology, artificial intelligence, and evolving workforce needs require us to rethink how we teach, train, and develop future professionals. Traditional approaches are no longer enough.
The opportunity lies in creating innovative, personalized learning experiences that build not only academic and technical knowledge, but also critical thinking, collaboration, adaptability, and resilience. By embracing emerging technologies, fostering cross-sector partnerships, and focusing on lifelong learning, we can better prepare students and professionals to meet the challenges of tomorrow. I believe organizations that invest in innovation while keeping people at the center of their work will create the greatest and most lasting impact.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my work and personal life are integrity, purpose, compassion, and continuous growth. I believe in leading with honesty, following through on commitments, and making decisions that reflect my values, even when they are difficult. Purpose is at the center of everything I do. Whether I'm advancing healthcare education or expanding opportunities through STEAM Minds Academy, I want my work to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of others. I also believe compassion is essential to effective leadership. Taking the time to listen, understand different perspectives, and support others creates stronger teams, stronger communities, and better outcomes. These same values shape how I show up for my family. While my career is demanding, I believe that success is measured not only by the impact we make professionally, but also by the presence we offer to the people who matter most. I make a conscious effort to be fully present with my family, creating meaningful moments, celebrating milestones, and ensuring they know they are my greatest priority. The quality of our presence, not just the quantity of our time, is what leaves a lasting impact.
Finally, I value lifelong learning. The world is constantly evolving, and I believe the best leaders remain curious, embrace change, and are always willing to grow. By striving to live these values consistently, in my leadership, my service, and at home, I hope to leave a legacy defined not only by what I accomplished, but by the lives I positively influenced along the way.
