Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my mother, a remarkable single parent who supported and guided me while providing strong educational opportunities that shaped my growth and ambitions.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from an early mentor: do what makes you happy. I’ve also been guided to be patient and work my way up within a company, trusting that time and persistence are on your side.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering my industry to view retail as a valuable training ground that builds transferable skills such as attendance, time management, and a strong work ethic. Always insist on respect—never let anyone downplay your title or suggest that a man could do your job better. Above all, prioritize roles that allow you to feel comfortable, confident, and happy in your work.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field right now include navigating micromanagement from new managers who may have limited people skills, frequent leadership turnover, and staffing or scheduling constraints. At the same time, there are significant opportunities: gaining operational experience in retail and food service that is transferable to other roles, and deepening knowledge of nutrition and food preparation, which aligns with both my personal and professional interests.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are maintaining work–life balance, prioritizing personal happiness, and fostering respect and empathy. I also place a strong emphasis on supporting and uplifting other women.
