Hayles began her nursing journey in Romania, coming from a family with a strong healthcare tradition that included nurses and physicians. Influenced by her mother’s work as a midwife, she pursued nursing education before immigrating to the United States. After navigating the challenges of transferring her educational credits, she continued her education at Chamberlain University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Registered Nursing with a 3.98 GPA and later a Master’s Degree in Nurse Executive with a 4.0 GPA. She has spent more than two decades at Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida, progressing from Team Lead to Clinical Manager and developing a strong record of clinical leadership and team development.
As a leader, Hayles emphasizes doing things correctly rather than simply completing tasks, a philosophy she attributes to her perfectionism and determination. She considers honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, involvement, and genuine care to be essential qualities in both professional and personal life. Her advice to the next generation of nurses is rooted in service: nursing should be pursued by those who genuinely want to help and care for others. She remains committed to excellence in patient care, strong teams, and leadership that supports both patients and staff.

Ten minutes with Andreea
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my stubbornness and perfectionism. I do not believe in doing things simply for the sake of getting them done. I believe they need to be completed properly and to the best of my ability. This mindset has pushed me to maintain high standards throughout my nursing and leadership career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to make honesty and integrity the foundation of my professional life. Being a trustworthy person is essential, particularly in nursing and leadership, where patients, colleagues, and teams depend on you. I have carried these principles with me throughout my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering nursing is to pursue this profession for the right reasons. Nursing should be a genuine commitment to helping and caring for people, rather than simply a career chosen for financial reasons. If you are truly interested in helping others and genuinely care for the people you serve, nursing can be an incredibly meaningful profession.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the challenges I see in nursing today is the intergenerational differences in dedication and interest within the profession. There is also significant turnover, particularly among newer nurses. I have observed that some new nurses want to move into intensive care immediately or pursue advanced positions without first developing a strong foundation in basic nursing skills and experience. Building that foundation and developing dedication to the profession are important for providing safe, effective patient care and creating strong nursing teams.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity and honesty are the values that are most important to me. I also believe in being interested, involved, and genuinely caring in everything I do. These qualities guide the way I approach my patients, colleagues, and responsibilities as a leader.
