Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angela

01What do you attribute your success to?

It's a lot of factors, for sure. Hard work and getting the right jobs at the right time, as well as having support from other people. A strong network and having people that believe in me have been keystones. Therapy has also been helpful in figuring out what is important to me and what my own values are. It takes a village. Grit and having a partner really make it a lot easier.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was really early when I had graduated college. My advisor said you'll figure it out. You'll try something, and see how it goes, and if that's the right job, or career path or role, then you'll get another one. And you'll figure it out. And it turns out that's true.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To women entering entrepreneurship and small business ownership or founding something, my advice is that they own their time, and that they get to make choices about how much they take home with them if they're still in a 9-to-5. We are able to define ourselves, choose our own career paths; we don't have to necessarily be on an expected or predicted path. Everybody should be able to choose their own way and carve out their own place in the world.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Our opportunities today are listening to our potential clients and making sure that we're constantly watching for what kinds of projects and services are the right fit for our business. It's an opportunity and a challenge because we've got to be paying attention to what content is resonating, what corporations are doing with their organizational design, and looking for the right spots where we can add value at the right level. It takes a lot of time and energy to keep your eye out for what other people might need, and learning to watch for and respond to the right signals.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Community, trust, autonomy, independence. It's really important to be honest with kindness.
