Ten minutes with Angela

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would just say perseverance, and just keep going, and continuing education. There's not really a secret to getting up every day and going to work. I've had to. I guess that helps. And now I've moved my mom back in with me, so I need to work now more than ever. If you don't progress, I feel like you just kind of waste away at what you're doing. You always have to be learning, and trying to exceed your expectation of yourself. It keeps the job more interesting. It gives you a bigger investment in it. If you're gonna do something, do it as well as you can.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would just tell her not to wait to get licensed. I would get your designations. I would just learn more, because I feel like the more you learn, the more confident you are, the more you're gonna enjoy it. You have to immerse yourselves into it. Just get licensed and go for it. And keep learning. It is a monster of information, and it's always changing.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Finding coverage, finding carriers that will cover certain risks. There's some that are almost uninsurable. Non-standard carriers. The insurance coverage is much less, and the premium is much higher. Anything to do with fertilizer, excavating is kind of hard. A lot of the construction aspects. Smaller contractors just starting out that don't have experience are the hardest to place. Carriers want at least 3 years experience.
