She emphasizes showing up with integrity by walking the talk and follows servant leadership principles. Bessard advises young women entering the field to captain their own financial ships, noting that women have been underserved but are rising in C-suite roles, and stresses early intentional planning for retirement. She identifies insufficient industry regulations as a key challenge, allowing unqualified operators to prey on those needing genuine assistance.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angela

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say steady plotting, you know, that I get up every morning with the intention to do 3 things really well. And that is to listen to others, to be a resource, and to teach someone something new every day.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice that I've received is always to stay a servant. Servant leader. And in that, I've definitely followed that because when you're ready to serve, it really opens up the door for so many possibilities and opportunities, and you're really able to listen to what people's needs are, instead of always being the one talking.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice that I would give to young women is to be the captain of their own financial ship. I think that women have been underserved in the financial community. We have traditionally not been paid the most, but I think that that is changing and evolving. I think women CEOs are on the rise, or C-suite executives. And taking their money matters very seriously and setting up something so that they can retire comfortably is something that we have to think about in our 20s.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenges are the regulations in the industry are not important enough to the industry, so there's a lot of cowboys running around just with gunslingers, and there's no sort of reform in our industry. And I think that there needs to be more rules so that the players in this industry are not just out there preying on people that need real help.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Showing up with integrity. You know, and not just saying it, but walking it out.
