What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to appreciating the positives, like the relationships that you get out of this work, and enjoying the challenges. I learned very young that I can't have a job that's just answering the phone or doing monotonous tasks. I have to have a challenge, and one of the things I like about what we do is that I'm doing something different every day. Today I was networking and had a lunch meeting, tomorrow I'll be reviewing documents and putting packages together. I love the diversity of it and appreciate that rather than being frustrated by it. This career has given me the flexibility to create the life I wanted. I raised my son as a single mom, and I was able to do that. I was able to be his mom, but I was also able to build a business while I was doing that.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to protect and nurture your database—it’s your most valuable asset. Relationships are everything, and being part of your clients’ milestones, from their first home to multiple purchases, is incredibly rewarding.
I also live by the principle of controlling what I can: I can’t change rates or world events, but I can manage my contacts, my actions, and my attitude. Focusing on the controllables keeps me resilient and effective.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in my field right now are market volatility and rate changes driven by macro factors, such as Fed decisions. At the same time, these conditions create opportunities for those who can pivot quickly, adapt strategies, and stay closely connected with clients to navigate changing circumstances effectively.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are relationships, family, and appreciation for those around me. I also prioritize continuous learning, resilience, and maintaining a positive attitude by focusing on what I can control.
