Angela Franke, MS, is a proactive and success-driven Athletic Director and Head Women's Volleyball Coach with over 15 years of experience in higher education athletics administration. Currently serving at Dillard University, she has a comprehensive understanding of intercollegiate athletics and sports management, with experience directing programs across NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, PIAA, and WPIAL conferences. Angela is recognized for her expertise in coaching, athletic program administration, student advocacy, and promoting diversity and inclusion within athletics. Her strategic leadership has consistently delivered efficient operations, competitive teams, and revenue-generating sports events.
Throughout her career, Angela has held leadership roles at multiple institutions, including Phoenix College, Skyline Gila River, and the Woodland Hills School District, where she oversaw district-wide athletic programs, managed budgets, developed staff, and implemented policies to ensure compliance and equity. As a coach, she has maintained a focus on student-athlete academic success, implementing systems to monitor progress and support holistic development. What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I advise young women to develop a diverse skill set and not limit themselves to coaching alone. Pursue degrees in athletic training or related fields to increase versatility and marketability, and always seek mentorship to guide your career.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Female college coaches often face challenges securing high-paying roles, making mentorship, networking, and expanding skill sets critical opportunities for career growth. Additionally, balancing administrative responsibilities with coaching requires strategic planning and flexibility.
