Her Story

About Angela

My journey began in the construction industry as a secretary, returning to work after giving birth to my first child. I got a chance to see a project being built from the ground - a Human Resource Service Center - and I fell in love with the industry because we were able to take something that was a field, trees, and all of that, and create something that the public could actually use, something that could actually change the lives of many people. From that industry, I continued on and started working in aviation, and I just really fell in love with it because you've got a lot of people that travel every day, and I get a chance to make air travel safe for the traveling public. My company actually works domestic as well as international, so it's just an incredible field. I get an opportunity to provide jobs for many people that might not have found their way. I work with minority as well as majority companies, and we're very creative to make sure that it's a well-rounded industry that provides opportunities not only for a select group of people, but for all people. In that arena, I've worked on the diversity side of it, as well as now leading a huge company here in Atlanta as the regional director. My key responsibilities include making sure that the airfields are safe for the traveling public - we work mostly at night because that's when a lot of the repairs and everything is done. I make sure our crews get out there, get the job done, and that at the end of the day, everyone goes home safe to their families exactly the way they came in. I'm currently bidding on various multi-million dollar jobs, and I work very closely with my project manager, safety director, joint venture partners, and the subcontractors and crews that actually do the work. My role allows me to lead with all of the management staff to make sure everything flows down to the actual guys in the field, and that everything is executed exactly the way the owners need it to be - the owner being Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the federal government FAA.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to making sure that our jobs are not only just selected for one group of people, but that we include all people, majority as well as minority, and that we give everyone a seat at the table and an opportunity to perform projects so that they can provide for their families and provide an incredible livelihood that we all want for our families. I strive every day to be influential, to lead, and to leave a great trail behind, and be an incredible role model. I'm really excited to push growth forward for me, as well as having another way to be recognized, because we always want to leave a legacy. Being recognized as an influential woman is something that I really am - I strive every day to be influential and to lead. This is a way that I'll get a chance to tell my story, and even if it just leads one person to want to have a more in-depth conversation with me, I could share more of my journey with them and hopefully become influential in their lives.
