Her Story

About Angela

Angela Jackson brings three decades of expertise to the mortgage and real estate sectors as a specialist and educator. With a background in mortgage lending, land analysis, and credit expertise, she also pursues entrepreneurship by educating others on lending, credit repair, and acquiring land for building. Jackson is preparing to begin her role as Community Manager over Development Services at Goodwin property management, drawing on her experience working with developers and custom builders. She is a certified mortgage loan underwriter for residential and commercial properties and is in the process of obtaining her Community Manager certification. A member of the CIA Institute, Jackson has no formal degree but credits her practical knowledge, gained through what she calls the school of hard knocks and her underwriting certification, for her career progression. She is actively involved in volunteer work with the Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude's, and the Capital of Texas Food Bank. Jackson attributes her success to putting God first, the motivation provided by her husband, and the inspiration from her mother-in-law who earned her doctorate in her seventies. She values strong morals and treating others fairly, and she advises young women entering the field to pursue it with passion, stay focused, and continue educating themselves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angela

01What do you attribute your success to?

God first, because He has blessed me the 30 years I've never had to advertise. My husband has been my biggest motivator, always keeping me moving forward. My mother-in-law in her 70s just got her doctorate, showing you're never too old.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My real estate advisor and instructor told me when interviewing, always have it in your mind that they're not interviewing you, you are interviewing them. It turns into a genuine conversation and ensures morals align.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't never give up. Stay focused. Work hard. Get into it with passion, not just for money, because those without passion don't last. Put yourself in your client's shoes like a mother hen guiding them. Continue to educate yourself with courses or certifications.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include being a woman of color often the only one in rooms with developers and custom builders, facing pushback when asking questions and being seen as rough or opinionated. Opportunities are vast in real estate including working with developers, builders, HOA attorneys, property management, and community development.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Morals are very important. I want to go to bed at night knowing I've made the right decisions and treated people fairly. Treating people the way I want to be treated is key.
