Her Story

About Angela

I lead the entire organization, focusing on strategy and larger partnerships we have out in the community, as well as leading the team from sales to editorial to design. My day-to-day involves a lot of meeting with different people out in the community, putting plans and processes in place, and working within a lot of deadlines. I've been in my current media role for almost 2 years, but prior to that, I've been in all sorts of leadership strategic roles - I was in linen and uniform, I was in nonprofit with the Girl Scouts, and I was in financial services. One of my most notable professional achievements is probably turning around revenue for a number of organizations. What I love most about my career, and it doesn't even matter about this career or any other career, is always about being able to work with a team, helping others, and setting new vision.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angela

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to honesty, putting people first, and thinking of others first. Persistence and overcoming challenges have also been key to my success. No one knows what you're going to say, only you do, so I don't worry about what other people think because no one knows what's going through your head. I just come out, be positive, and confident.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is that no one knows what you're going to say, only you do. So don't worry about what other people think, because no one knows it. No one knows what's going through your head. Just come out, be positive, and confident.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Stand proud, stand tall, don't... Be confident.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think this industry specifically, when you're dealing with media, can be a really tough space financially, and what that looks like, and how it's supported. We're very fortunate to be in sort of this local business media space, so it's a very positive form of journalism, which is great, because I don't think we have as much pressures. But I think the financial stability of journalism is in a tough place, and we just gotta get the message out about how this helps with civic engagement and the broader community.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is most important to me. I think putting people first, thinking of others first. And probably persistence and overcoming challenges.
