Her Interview
Ten minutes with Angela
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my deep expertise in reading and understanding insurance policies, particularly in complex claims situations where many agents may lack formal claims training or authority. My experience allows me to identify potential coverage issues that others may overlook and provide business owners with informed guidance during high-stakes situations. One example involved a business owner who was initially told by his agent that he had no coverage in a legal dispute, but after a closer review of the policy language, the insurance company later acknowledged that coverage did exist. Experiences like this reinforce the value of strong policy analysis and real-world claims knowledge.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to stay focused on delivering business value rather than personal recognition. That perspective has helped me prioritize long-term impact, client outcomes, and the strength of the work itself over visibility or individual credit. It has been especially meaningful as I recently launched my own business two months ago, where building credibility, trust, and results for clients is more important than seeking personal acknowledgment.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the insurance industry is to first understand whether a sales role truly fits your strengths, especially in terms of communication, resilience, and problem-solving. Many firms even use personality assessments to help determine alignment early on. If you are a strong fit and committed to the work, this is a field where your effort directly drives your income and growth. There is no fixed ceiling set by others—your results determine your opportunities. That level of control over your success can be highly empowering for those willing to put in the work and build expertise.
For other interested persons who are more interested in technicality of insurance, working towards becoming an underwriter or actuary are great avenues to pursue. The insurance industry is the largest, strongest industry in the world. It is a global industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is earning the attention of busy business owners who are already stretched thin and focused on running their operations. At the same time, there is a significant need to correct widespread misunderstandings about insurance coverage, which can lead to costly gaps or assumptions. In many cases, policies are not fully reviewed or understood in detail, and when that happens, clients may not realize the extent of their coverage until a claim arises. This creates both a challenge and an opportunity to bring clarity, precision, and stronger policy interpretation to help business owners make more informed risk decisions.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life center on helping clients avoid costly mistakes and ensuring they have a clear, accurate understanding of their insurance coverage. I prioritize managing risk in a way that is both practical and affordable for business owners, while focusing on long-term protection rather than short-term sales. Above all, I value providing honest, informed guidance—taking the time to properly analyze policies and explain them clearly—so clients can make confident, well-informed decisions rather than simply purchasing a policy without full understanding. One issue I sometimes address is letting business insureds understand that agents and brokers have limited authority and no authority with regard to claims. For a consultation about a possible claim, the business owner can be properly guided by one of the insurance companies claim adjusters.
