About Angelia
Angelia Long is a Senior Photographer at Nuovo, specializing in semi-nude photography as part of a luxury brand. Her career began with a camera given to her by her father as a child, leading to mock photo shoots and a passion for the medium. She attended UNT where she studied studio art photography, minored in art history and multimedia management, and focused her college work on the human body as an artistic form through boudoir and semi-nude photography. She was recruited by a small boudoir company that sent her nationwide for shoots before joining her current employer. In addition to her photography work, where she is considered the leading photographer and has set sales records, Angelia has taught photography to middle school and high school students and serves as a sales specialist. She attributes her success to her personal grit, discipline, and ability to take and learn from critique.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Angelia
01What do you attribute your success to?
My personal grit. I'm a Virgo, I'm a hustler, I work hard. I've worked full-time since I was like 13. You really have to have some discipline and be able to take critique and run with it and learn from it. Knowing who you are and being confident in displaying that however it feels best for you.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up. There's so many people doing this and it's such a saturated field. It can feel a little daunting. Just keep going and push your creative and shoot more and do more and just keep going is the biggest thing.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities are endless in the creative space. There's always an idea and it really just takes someone being like okay let's do it. On the opposite side because there are so many people doing this it's definitely a little bit more saturated field right now that I think everybody has a camera and everybody has abilities to create things. Finding ways to push yourself when there's so many other options for people to go to.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Self-awareness and accountability. I'm always very aware of who I am and how I am coming off to other people and what I'm doing for myself and for others. Being able to be adaptable and growing and endlessly learning is a huge thing for me. Being so true to yourself and so unapologetically yourself that no one can change that or you don't perform for others but perform for yourself.
