Her Story

About Angelica

Angelica Carmona has dedicated 29 years to human resources within the military, maintaining the same occupation throughout her career. As the first female in her family to join the military and the first generation to graduate college, she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of the Incarnate Word and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration there. She has been deployed twice and draws on the patience and empathy gained from these experiences, as well as raising two boys as a single parent. Carmona is affiliated with the VFW and has been involved with the Change Today, Change Tomorrow nonprofit organization in Louisville, Kentucky. She attributes her success to her children, who taught her strength and perseverance, and she values integrity and empathy above all, never compromising her principles. Among the challenges she has faced is proving her worth and knowledge as a female in the military.

Ten minutes with Angelica

01What do you attribute your success to?

My children showed me how to be strong and how to keep going even when you think it's the end, there's still more to go. My biggest strength is the drive for my children to show them that you can keep going.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never be afraid to ask those hard questions and ask for help because you're not alone even if it feels like it. You'll see where you should be and what you should do. Never go against your integrity and your values.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being a female in the military is still one of the biggest challenges, trying to prove your worth and knowledge to those that aren't female. Also AI in general.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My integrity and being empathetic are the biggest values to me. Integrity means if I have to do something that is not within me, I'm not gonna do it.
