Her Story
About Angelica
I never really planned on going into construction. My background was in business, and when Ed and I got married, I certainly didn't imagine that one day we would be building custom homes together. But construction was always around both of us. My dad was a finish trim carpenter, Ed grew up working alongside his dad in construction, and over time I started helping more with the business side of Ed's building projects.
Eventually, one thing led to another where I was helping Ed in construction, and in 2016 we founded EKA Build. Today, we build truly custom homes and complete remodels throughout Northeast Ohio. I love the business side of what we do, but I also really enjoy working with our clients, helping bring all the pieces together, and watching something that started as an idea become their home.
Ed and I are also raising four children, so EKA is very much a family business and a big part of our lives. Our faith is foundational to us, and we try to approach both our family and our business with the understanding that what we have been given is something we are called to steward well.

Ten minutes with Angelica
01What do you attribute your success to?
First and foremost, God. There have been plenty of times throughout the years when running a business has been hard, and there have certainly been seasons when it would have been easier to walk away. Our faith has kept us grounded through those times.
We don't always get everything right, but we continually seek God's wisdom and try to run EKA in a way that glorifies Him and serves people well. I also attribute much of our success to simply continuing to show up, work hard, learn, and keep moving forward even through the difficult seasons.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't be afraid to do things differently just because "that's how it's always been done." Some of the best changes we've made in our business have come from stepping back, asking how we can do something better, and being willing to keep learning.
I also believe you have to know what you don't know. Surround yourself with people who have strengths and knowledge you don't have, ask questions, and never stop learning.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up. Be persistent, keep learning, and don't be intimidated by walking into a room where you may be one of the only women.
Construction isn't always easy, and neither is building a career or a business in it, but there is so much opportunity. Learn the details, ask questions, build strong relationships, and be willing to prove yourself through the quality of your work. There is something incredibly rewarding about helping take a client's vision and turning it into a home their family will actually live in and enjoy for years.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Rising construction costs continue to be one of the biggest challenges. As a builder and business owner, you're constantly balancing the cost of labor and materials with the responsibility to remain competitive, protect the business, and provide real value to clients. We review and update our pricing constantly because the market continues to change.
At the same time, I think there are a lot of opportunities in residential construction. We currently focus on custom homes and remodels, but we're also exploring what future growth could look like, including potential developments or cluster-home communities. The challenge is finding the right land, partners, and opportunities while staying true to the quality and level of service that define EKA Build.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Trust, communication, serving, quality, excellence, and knowledge are the core values we have built EKA around, and they are just as important to me personally.
At the heart of those values is our faith and a desire to serve people well. Whether it's how we communicate with a client, how we treat someone on our team, or the quality of something being built when no one will ever see it, I believe integrity shows up in the details. We want people to know they can trust us to do what we say we're going to do and genuinely care about the outcome.
