About Angelica

Angelica Mora is the Administrative Services Manager at the City of Indio, California, a role she assumed in July after nearly seven years in local government. She began her public sector career at the City of Ontario in an entry-level position, where she advanced to management analyst, implemented a finance software system, rebuilt procurement policies, and led her team to the 2025 Achievement in Excellence in Procurement Award. Prior to entering local government, she gained six years of experience in private sector purchasing and supply chain at an aerospace metals distributor, including international buying and staff training. Mora earned a bachelor's degree in public policy from the University of California Riverside and a master's degree in public administration from the University of La Verne. She is a member of CAPO, NIGP, and NPI, and specializes in procurement, public works, and local government operations. She attributes her professional growth to a strong support system and a commitment to continuous learning, honesty, integrity, and ethical practices in the public sector.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angelica

01What do you attribute your success to?

My support system has been key. My parents taught me work ethic and taking opportunities. Later my husband became my backbone, reflecting my worth and reminding me everything happens for a reason.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

As you move up to supervisor or manager roles, you lose some camaraderie and it can feel lonely at the top. You have to find a different network. Look at the five friends around you as a reflection of yourself.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Not everything is as it appears, so be patient and stay guarded. Attitude will take you further than any skill. Be nice and cordial but focus on having a good attitude because no one wants to work with or mentor someone with a bad attitude. Keep yourself educated through audiobooks and podcasts.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The challenge is not being in control of procurement policy in the new role, feeling like the Wild Wild West, but it provides opportunity to learn and build communication with the team. Building a good team helps navigate the differences in a new organization.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, integrity, and ethics are 100% important, especially in public sector using taxpayer dollars. I believe everything happens for a reason and in karma, so I always try to do the right thing.
