Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angelica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say that there's a lot of successful women in my life. Obviously, it's not just about career, but just seeing how driven all the women in my family are, has really pushed me. My mom and my aunts have really helped me by sending that image. My mom had her own business, and she would always be in a room full of men, trying to navigate different business deals with them. And just seeing how confident she was, and she does not take no for an answer. I really admire that.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would definitely, again, just say that you are as qualified as absolutely everybody else. A lot of men will apply to positions that they know they're not qualified for and usually get, and women will underplay their qualifications. And it's important to stand up to our standard and also acknowledge that we are equally as qualified and are able to uphold the same positions.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I've been very fortunate to be able to do a lot of service work and service projects through my college. I've gone to Washington, D.C. twice during spring break to work in different homeless shelters and tackle different issues with people facing homelessness and housing and food insecurity. A lot of that has been navigating, working with people that need the support with the right mindset and the right heart, not just doing it professionally but actually going in and humanizing these people. These people are not just a number, they're real people with real struggles who really need the support.
