Angelika Castro is an LL.M. (Bar Track) candidate at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles and a Senior Tax Research Analyst at H&R Block, where she specializes in regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and tax reporting strategy. With more than a decade of multidisciplinary experience spanning legal, regulatory, and technology environments, she focuses on interpreting and operationalizing complex federal and state requirements across multi-entity structures. Her work includes compliance oversight, regulatory change monitoring, cross-functional collaboration, and structured documentation processes designed to mitigate risk and ensure governance alignment.

As a Foreign-Licensed Attorney and bilingual professional (English/Spanish), Angelika brings a global perspective to U.S. regulatory frameworks. In her role, she conducts independent research on evolving tax laws, translates statutory and regulatory changes into operational guidance for technical teams, and serves as a liaison with taxing authorities nationwide. She plays a key role in compliance tracking, internal policy alignment, and government outreach initiatives, ensuring that reporting obligations are met with precision and accountability in highly regulated environments.

Prior to transitioning fully into the legal and tax regulatory space, Angelika built a successful career in technology, finance, and operations leadership, managing vendor solutions, regulatory affairs, and cross-border business strategy. Her career evolution reflects a deliberate return to her legal roots and a commitment to practicing within the U.S. legal system. Through her LL.M. studies and bar preparation, she is further strengthening her expertise in U.S. law, positioning herself to contribute strategically at the intersection of corporate compliance, governance, and regulatory risk management.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

Resilience, curiosity, and consistency. I’ve learned to stay adaptable, ask questions early, and keep moving forward even when the path isn’t linear. Being willing to learn across disciplines: law, tax, compliance, and operations, has been a major factor in my growth.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

That you don’t have to know the full path, you just need to take the next right step. Focusing on progress rather than perfection has helped me build confidence and momentum over time. Every single opportunity is a chance for something greater.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be an advocate for yourself, don't let anyone take your light away. Don’t underestimate the value of your perspective, especially in technical or male-dominated spaces. Ask questions, speak up early, and don’t wait until you feel “fully ready”, readiness often comes after you step into the challenge.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is keeping pace with constant regulatory change across jurisdictions. At the same time, that creates a huge opportunity for professionals who can translate complex rules into clear, practical guidance and help organizations stay compliant while moving forward.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, accountability, and growth. I value doing the right thing even when it’s difficult, being dependable to others, and continuously learning — professionally and personally.
