Her Story

About Angelina

Angelina Fiore serves as a surgery scheduler at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she has worked for about 20 years in various departments before returning to her current role two years ago. Her career path was influenced by her mother, a nurse, leading her to pursue a different avenue in healthcare to serve patients without becoming a nurse herself. Fiore earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of La Verne and a master's degree in public administration with an emphasis in healthcare management from Grand Canyon University. She is currently enrolled in a master's program in library and science, which she began two months ago and expects to complete in about two years, potentially leading to a part-time role in a new direction of serving people. In addition to her scheduling duties, Fiore has held roles in patient safety and as a patient service representative in post-kidney transplant, and she previously spent seven years in weight loss surgery preparing patients for procedures. She acts as a floor captain and has served as a Patient Experience Ambassador, roles that involve training new staff, implementing team changes, and ensuring consistent positive patient interactions. Fiore has received a Patient Experience Award and standing ovations from peers for her contributions. She attributes her success to dedication, recognizing the importance of her work, and exemplifying strong leadership from her managers. Her values center on commitment, keeping one's word, dedication, being there for people, and communication. Outside of work, she volunteered at Planned Parenthood in the past. Fiore advises young women entering the field to remain dedicated and determined, serve people with commitment, and persist through challenges while continuing to learn each day as a new start.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angelina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being dedicated and knowing how important things are, which motivates me to do the best I can. Having good managers and leaders makes me want to show through example that their leadership and opportunities aren't wasted, so I like to be the best I can for my department.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just being dedicated, just knowing it's a lot of work, but the payoff is great. Serving people is rewarding, and you just have to be committed and determined. Don't let things get you down, things are always gonna happen. Keep going. We've all been there where things don't go right our way, but you just keep going and going and just continuing to learn. Just knowing every day is just a new start.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include dealing with insurance issues, schedule changes with the transplant surgeon, availability of resources like robots for cases, and being short-staffed which requires everyone to chip in. Opportunities include always being able to learn new things through classes and reaching out to people, with resources like LinkedIn learning at Cedars.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Commitment to what you say you're gonna do, keeping your word, being dedicated, just being there for people, and communication are most important to me.
