Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angelique

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my family, my husband and my kids, and the people around me who pushed me to become a confident leader. They saw potential in me and put me in positions where I had to take initiative, like being thrown to the wolves, which helped me grow. Being nominated for awards like Principal of Learning and Hidden Hero Award proves I'm doing something right, and my family and colleagues have helped me see that I am a good leader.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received was to not be afraid to be myself. My boss told me just be yourself, you'll realize it's harder to try to be something that you're not. Just relax, be who you are even if you make a mistake. Ever since then it has worked I've noticed I'm on camera talking more confidently and I don't apologize if I stumble I just keep going. I find it better when I meet new people that I train I tell them about my personal life first.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value people and my time with people inside and out of work. It's extremely important to have family time and spending quality time to ensure everyone is meeting their goals and on the same page. I believe in taking 30 minutes here or there to break things down. I do the same thing with my kids or the kids at church as well because time is something that's very important and valuable.
