Her Story

About Angie

Angie Liu is a management consultant, content creator, and go-to-market strategist based in New York. With 3 to 4 years of experience in her field, she began exploring content creation while in college. She earned an undergraduate degree in life science before pivoting to complete a master's at Columbia University in marketing science. Her non-linear career path started with a role as a product manager in finance, followed by work in cybersecurity and compliance in tech, before moving into startups where she has focused on the product marketing and go-to-market side. She has built a rapidly growing presence as a content creator on Instagram, gaining around 20,000 followers in 5 days. Angie also co-founded the Review Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3 by onboarding more people to Web3, crypto, and blockchain.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Angie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think just being able to iterate very fast. The things that happen in my life within 2 months is probably what other people expect to happen in their life in 2 years. I'm very introspective, constantly thinking about what my next step could be. I'm never static in one position. Always on the move. Quick bias to action. If I have an idea, I'll probably act on it first, and the market is going to give me feedback.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Build your personal brand early, as early as possible. Start building out, start thinking about who you are, get your life out there on the internet. Nobody cares about whether you're introverted or extroverted. Don't make excuses for yourself. If you want to be in marketing or content, get out there early and you'll figure it out. It's a must, not a choice.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge right now is lack of product differentiation in consumer tech. All we're competing on is just distribution and also taste, which comes from a marketing perspective. As someone that does create content, you can't claim specific type of content. There's no intellectual property. You always need to spread out new content consistently and as fast as possible, think of new ways to get people to label you based on niche or what you can actually do.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Trust in the marketing sense and what I do. Respect in what I do, believing in my vision. Especially working with technical people and founders who may lack marketing experience but need to be open to suggestions and crazy ideas. Vice versa, respect I'm giving to them as well.
