Her Story
About Angie
Angie Snowball is a marketing and personal branding professional based in Dayton, Ohio, and the Chief Executive Officer of The Snowball Effect. Her expertise spans LinkedIn personal branding, storytelling, and communication and culture. In the six years since her pivot in 2020, she has helped individuals and companies find the right words for the right audiences and build memorable, authentic presences on LinkedIn. She is the author of the Amazon bestseller From Invisible to Influential: 7 LinkedIn Strategies That Build Your Brand and Create Opportunities, which reached number one in two Amazon categories and number two in Career and Professional Development. She also hosts the podcast Serving Up Success with a Splash and speaks as a keynote presenter.
Snowball's career began with roughly fifteen years in corporate America at companies including Procter & Gamble, Ford Motor Company, ZF Group, and Federal-Mogul, with international assignments in Germany and Belgium. Living abroad before she spoke the local languages showed her how isolating it is to be unable to express yourself, and that experience sparked her passion for language and storytelling. After leaving the corporate world in 2010, she earned a master's degree from Morehead State University, building on an undergraduate degree in English and theater from Thomas More University. That same year she founded Living in America, which helped expatriates build the language and cultural skills they needed at work and in daily life, and she went on to coach more than 400 business executives and their families. As her focus shifted from teaching English to communication coaching, she launched The Snowball Effect to help professionals tell their stories through networking and marketing channels.
A Six Sigma Green Belt with an ICF accreditation in progress, Snowball is equally committed to her community. She serves as President of the American Business Women's Association's Gem City Chapter and as Chapter President of BNI's New Frontier Chapter. She is also active in multiple chambers of commerce and on city commission boards in the Dayton area, and she created the tri-state region's largest International Women's Day celebration. Driven by a desire to help others, especially young people from challenging backgrounds, she believes in lifelong learning and in surrounding yourself with people who help you grow. Outside of work, she is a master scuba diver who enjoys kayaking, hiking, cycling, reading, and writing.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Angie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the time I spent living overseas, where I experienced firsthand what it feels like to be trapped inside yourself. I always knew I was outgoing and capable of great conversation, yet I could not express myself. That taught me that language is only one barrier. Many people face other obstacles that keep them from sharing who they are, and there is nothing worse than feeling trapped within yourself. That realization inspired me to find ways to reach others. You may believe no one wants to hear your story, but somebody needs to hear it, and everyone should feel comfortable in their own story and in telling it.
I also did not grow up in the most encouraging environment. I always wanted out, and I always wanted to do something more, which made me very driven. I want to help others, especially young people in difficult situations, know that they can truly do anything they set their minds to. You have to be motivated, work hard, and go for it. You have to believe in yourself, get past imposter syndrome, and hit the go button, and then things can happen.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I ever received was to never be the smartest person in the room. If you are the smartest person in the room, it is time to find another room, because when you stop growing, you stop moving.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never stop learning.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I am a water person. I am a master scuba diver, and I love kayaking and everything water-related. I am also very outdoorsy and enjoy hiking and riding bikes. I love to read, and I am dabbling in writing, working on several books that I hope to develop further someday.
