Anita Vance
Anita Brezovic Vance is a dedicated Purposeful Play Consultant with a passion for early literacy and childhood development. With a career spanning over two decades in library services and education, Anita has cultivated engaging learning experiences for children of all ages. She began her professional journey as a high school librarian and curriculum coordinator, later serving as an outreach librarian at the Altoona Area Public Library, where she brought “Library Magic” to preschools and Head Start classrooms, fostering a love of reading and learning through interactive programs.
In her current role as Purposeful Play Consultant at Family, Anita designs and implements playful, educational experiences that support literacy and learning. Her work is grounded in her belief that learning through play enhances cognitive, social, and emotional development, creating a foundation for lifelong curiosity and engagement. She has also contributed her expertise to statewide initiatives, including serving as President of the Pennsylvania School Librarians’ Association, advocating for school libraries and professional development across the state.
Anita’s dedication extends beyond her professional work. She has volunteered with organizations like the Quaint Corner Children’s Museum and Discovery Center, promoting educational play and family engagement, and served her community through food distribution efforts at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church. With advanced training in Library and Information Science from PennWest Clarion and a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Saint Francis University, Anita continues to inspire educators, families, and children alike, championing literacy, play, and lifelong learning.

My advice to young women entering this field is to always be eager to learn, be a good listener, stand tall and proud, and keep moving forward.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field right now is reaching as many schools as possible to provide students with a strong educational foundation and help them achieve their highest potential.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in work and life are helping the underserved, staying focused and organized, and actively engaging with my community, with personal interests that include teaching crocheting and community service.
