About Ann

Ann Luebke serves as HR Director at the Levy location in Charlotte at the Spectre Marina. She has spent 14 years at the Compass Corporate Payroll Office before moving to the field with Levy Food and Beverage five years ago, for a total of 19 years in the industry this June. Levy is a branch of Compass. Her career began in various business roles including account management and business office manager, progressing through positions such as accounting assistant and Director of Business and Finance at a kids' facility before entering payroll, which opened doors to broader business aspects and led her toward HR. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks after attending public high school in a small town in North Dakota, where she grew up on a farm. Ann attributes her success to great mentors who took a chance on her early in her career, along with brilliant and smart leadership that taught her to look at details, think ahead, and not expect things to be handed to her. She values hard work, dedication, and honesty with herself and others. In her role, she handles event days involving concerts or basketball games, assisting associates, ensuring smooth operations, and interacting with guests and team members to create great experiences. She sees opportunities in using AI to make processes faster and smarter while preserving the people aspect, and notes challenges in hospitality post-COVID, such as attracting workers and managing guest expectations.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Ann

01What do you attribute your success to?

I had some really great mentors early on in my career that honestly took a chance on me and that played heavily into my success. I have been fortunate along the way to have very brilliant, smart leadership that taught me to look at the details, keep thinking ahead, and not expect something to be handed to you.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Your name will enter the room before you do.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Ask questions. Never be afraid to raise your hand, and look for the group that supports you when you're not in the room.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities are definitely AI, using AI to make what we do faster and smarter but at the same time not losing the people aspect of it. Challenges are definitely hospitality, getting people to come back and want to work in that type of industry after COVID, and managing people's expectations when they go out for that experience.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Hard work and dedication are probably the top two. If I had to name three, it would be just being honest with myself and with others.
