Anna Elaine Melvin

Manager, Procurement and Print Center
American Kennel Club
Raleigh, NC 27617

I have built my career by stepping into growth, taking on responsibility, and delivering results that matter. At the American Kennel Club, I advanced through multiple roles into leadership by consistently bringing structure, accountability, and clarity to complex operations. My experience in supply chain and procurement has been shaped by a commitment to doing the work with discipline, purpose, and measurable impact.

Today, I support both the North Carolina operations center and the New York office, working across departments to source goods and services while helping teams stay aligned with their budgets. My role has evolved into leading two departments and reporting directly to executive leadership, where I focus on driving accountability, structure, and results across operations.

If you ask those who work with me, they will tell you I am passionate about what I do, and that is true. I genuinely enjoy the work, but more importantly, I value the teams behind it. My passion is rooted in the people I work with every day. Strong teams make the difference, and I am fortunate to lead teams that are committed, accountable, and aligned in the work we do together.

Everything I have built is rooted in people, guided by stewardship, and measured by the lasting impact it leaves behind.

• Master's Degree in Gerontology

• American Purchasing Society

• I serve as a Toy Drive Lead with Mama Moses – The Underground Railroad in Lillington, North Carolina, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on supporting underserved communities across the state. Through this initiative, I organize and lead a large-scale holiday toy drive, coordinating volunteers, donations, and logistics to provide toys and bicycles to children and families in need. I have also volunteered with Heartland Hospice in Raleigh, North Carolina, where I provided companionship and emotional support to patients and their families, helping maintain dignity and comfort during end-of-life care. In addition, I served with the Committee for Adult Care Home Advisory in Wake County, North Carolina, as part of the Ombudsman Program. In this role, I advocated for nursing home residents by visiting facilities, supporting resident rights, and helping ensure quality care and accountability within senior living environments.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to discipline, consistency, and a strong sense of stewardship in everything I do. I lead with transparency and ethics, making sure decisions are clear, accountable, and built on trust. Most importantly, I invest in people because strong teams turn effort into lasting results.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received was recognizing when you reach a point where you have outgrown a position. I believe you should sit and learn everything a role has to offer, master it, and grow from it. However, do not become so comfortable that you miss your next level of growth. There comes a time when the seat you are in is no longer shaping you; it is simply holding you.

I have always carried this mindset with me: do not ask God for direction if you are not willing to move your feet. Growth requires action. It requires awareness, discipline, and the willingness to step out of what is familiar. I do not believe in sitting in a seat that feels indented just for me. I believe in continuing to stretch, to grow, and to position myself where I am being challenged, developed, and prepared for what is next.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering this field to start their education early and stay committed to it. If you have the opportunity to keep going, do not pause your growth. Keep building your knowledge, your skills, and your confidence. This industry requires discipline, consistency, and a willingness to learn. There will be challenges, but you cannot let those moments stop you. Stay focused, stay prepared, and keep moving forward.

Most importantly, do not give up on yourself. Growth takes time, but if you stay committed and continue pushing forward, you will create opportunities that align with where you are meant to go.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in supply chain and procurement right now is growth. This industry is not slowing down; it is expanding, and organizations are recognizing the value of strong procurement leadership. There is a clear demand for experienced professionals at the management and executive levels, and those roles continue to grow with competitive six-figure earning potential.

At the same time, the challenge is being prepared for that level of responsibility. This field requires more than just processing transactions. It demands strategic thinking, financial discipline, and the ability to manage budgets, data, and relationships all at once. For those who enjoy working with numbers, making decisions, and driving results, this is a strong and stable career path. The opportunity is there, but it belongs to those who are willing to develop the skills, stay consistent, and step into the responsibility that comes with it.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

One of the most important values to me, both in my work and personal life, is being true to who I am. I believe in showing up as the same person in every space I enter. While professionalism matters, it should never come at the cost of authenticity. You should not have to change who you are to fit into a room. Your character, your values, and your integrity should remain consistent, whether you are at home or at work. That consistency builds trust, respect, and confidence in who you are.

For me, that foundation is strengthened by the power of prayer and the support of my family. Prayer keeps me grounded, focused, and aligned, especially in moments that require clarity and strength. My family provides the support system that allows me to stay rooted and move forward with confidence. Together, they remind me who I am and why I stand firm in my values.

It is about walking into every space with honesty, staying grounded in who I am, and trusting both my faith and my foundation, no matter the environment.
