Anna Marie Harrison, J.D., is a healthcare policy and government relations professional with extensive experience spanning both the public and private sectors. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and a Juris Doctor from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, with additional legal and policy studies at Georgetown University Law Center and a study abroad experience at the University of Cambridge. Early in her career, she built a foundation in healthcare law and policy through internships with the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, Subcommittee on Health, and leadership roles in government relations within the healthcare industry.

She went on to serve on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant/Counsel, where she advised a Member of Congress on issues related to healthcare policy, judiciary matters, and congressional oversight, including work with the House Appropriations and House Judiciary Committees. She later joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where she served as Deputy Director and subsequently Senior Deputy Director of Oversight and Investigations within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Legislation. In this role, she worked closely with senior agency leadership and key federal health agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

In recent years, Anna Marie has focused on federal government relations and healthcare advocacy, serving as a lobbyist for organizations including the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) and the National Association of Spine Specialists (NASS). Her work includes monitoring legislative developments, preparing policy briefings, coordinating congressional engagement, and supporting healthcare stakeholders in navigating federal policy processes. She continues to contribute to healthcare policy discussions through advisory and volunteer roles, bringing over a decade of experience in healthcare law, legislative affairs, and public-sector policy leadership.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to prioritize work-life balance. Maintaining a healthy balance allows me to stay focused, productive, and fulfilled, both professionally and personally.

I would advise young women entering this industry to prioritize perseverance and remain true to themselves. Challenges are inevitable, but staying resilient and grounded in your values will help you navigate obstacles and build a meaningful, authentic career.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in healthcare today is navigating complex regulatory requirements while striving to make care more accessible and affordable. At the same time, these challenges present meaningful opportunities for reform and innovation within the system. The field’s complexity also creates continuous opportunities for learning, growth, and professional development, making it both demanding and rewarding.

Faith is the most important value in both my work and personal life. It guides my decisions, shapes my perspective, and provides a strong foundation for how I approach challenges, relationships, and personal growth.
